The Suite Life - May 2024

Queues stretching for miles, the full complement of Wiggles, and Nicole Kidman – last year’s SXSW Sydney was definitely the hottest ticket in town. The inaugural event dedicated to creativity set the city abuzz with ideas, encounters and connections, and this year’s follow-up is bound to raise the roof again. The best part: no fewer than six of our talent are in the running to host sessions for the highly anticipated October conference. Dr Gina Cleo, Dr Joanna McMillan, Shelly Horton, Dr Ginni Mansberg, Dr Tim Sharp and Molly Taylor are all vying to bring their insights and leadership to the SXSW Sydney stage – and we’re here for it. To find out more and to purchase your tickets, click here https://www.sxswsydney.com/attend - we can’t wait to see them in action.

Another exciting event on the horizon is the Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games – we’re now less than 100 days away from the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony and what is a global convergence of triumph, athleticism and emotion. After being part of the Olympics uniform launch last month, our beach volleyball queen and water polo champ, Tilly Kearns and Mariafe Artacho del Solar have their eyes on medals, while Paralympic golden girl Ellie Cole is thrilled about joining the Channel Nine commentary team.

A much more low-key event also on my radar is Mother’s Day (May 12). I’m fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be spending the day with my mother and my daughters, and I hope you have quality family time planned as well. If this is a challenging or emotional day for you, do take care of yourself.

Til next month,

The Olympics build-up is not the only thing that’s been keeping Ellie Cole busy. Throughout late March and April, Ellie enjoyed a brilliant journey (and a top five result) in the I’m a Celebrity jungle, wowing audiences with her humour, her joy, her kindness, her bravery, her honesty and her can-do attitude. She also successfully raised awareness for child cancer organisation Challenge – the same charity that supported Ellie and her family when they were going through her cancer journey as a young girl. Always keen to give back, Ellie is also lighting up billboards in the annual Witchery White Shirt Campaign. The star-studded campaign, which to date has raised more than $16 million for ovarian cancer research, is a wonderful cause and we love seeing Ellie involved as one of this year’s ambassadors.

It’s also a big month for Dr Preeya Alexander, whose new book launches today (more on that below). Together with Cuppa TV she’s also just launched a new self-study course to reassure and educate Aussie parents. Called ‘So Now You’re a Parent’, this 11-part video series from covers everything from physical recovery from birth to practical parenting tips. You can purchase three-month access here, and follow the course at your own pace.

Marketing to Gen Z audiences can be tricky, but this month two of our young talent proved they have the social media reach and the relatability factor to make an impact. Water polo champ Tilly Kearns launched a fab TikTok campaign for Up&Go while high-profile tradie Bardie Somerville nailed (pun intended) the TikTok brief for Tool Kit Depot. (Psst: if you need help reaching Gen Z on TikTok, give us a shout.)

Is it just me, or is menopause a hot topic right now? We’re thrilled to see the stigma around menopause is FINALLY starting to lift, and Dr Ginni Mansberg is right at the forefront of conversations about this life stage. Her best-selling book The M Word, first released in 2017, has been revised and updated, and is now filled with all the most recent research and commentary from experts working in this space.

Ever felt a little bit lost? Well you’re not alone. Tim’s new book, Lost and Found – How to Wander your Way to a Better Life, is all about letting our minds wander as a way of building vulnerability and authenticity. Lost and Found is Tim’s most personal book yet coupled with his strong research in this area and if his past books are anything to go by, this is likely to strike a chord with Aussies everywhere. It’s out in July- pre order here.

And if you can’t get enough of Preeya’s Instagram recipe videos or her podcast – Happy to Health, you’ll love her new book Full Plate – One Meal for the Whole Family, which has just hit bookstores. It’s jam-packed with healthy recipes that cater to common dietary needs and have been tested for fussy eaters. Preeya’s book provides great solutions to the eternal question: ‘What’s for dinner, Mum and Dad?’
